The Robin Egg Blue 308 Bullet Pen is made from the casings of fired 308 rounds. The casings are first prepped (cleaned and then sandblasted with Aluminum Oxide) and then off gassed (baked) for 30 minutes to insure no contaminants are left behind that would interfere with the Cerakote process.
Next the casings get a heavy base coat of Satin Aluminum Cerakote and then flash cured for 15 minutes. This base coat of Satin Aluminum Cerakote is so that the Robin Egg Blue is brighter and truer to it’s intended look. After that a thick coat of Robin Egg Blue Cerakote is applied over the Satin Aluminum. Each Robin Egg Blue pen has two thick coats of Cerakote
Next the casings go in the oven for 2 hours at 250 degrees to get fully cured. Once the casings are fully cured they get an acetone bath to insure the Cerakote properly adhered to the casing and the Cerakote layers adhered to each other. Cerakote is a ceramic coating and when applied properly will not be affected by thinners or acetone. If the casings are good to go they are cleaned and assembled into pens.
Our 308 Pens come with Black Ink. The ink cartridges are replaceable, which can be done by firmly gripping the top and bottom casing and pull away from the center completely pulling the pen apart, unscrew the ink cartridge, and replace it with a new one. The 308 pens take a Cross Pen style ink cartridge.
